A LITTLE GUIDANCE. A LOT MORE CLARITY.

Find your way,
at your own pace.

A practical guide to Manicule, from your first thought to a well-organized project.

Updated 24 October 2026 · Web and iPad · Current release

1. Your first ten minutes

Create a calm place for your thoughts, then turn one thought into a useful next step.

  1. Choose Create an account on the sign-in screen, or Continue with Google when it is available. Use a password of at least 12 characters for email sign-in.
  2. Open the verification email and select Verify email. The link expires after 30 minutes; request a fresh one in Settings if needed.
  3. Complete the welcome questions: language, timezone, what matters to you and how you prefer to work. Calendar connections are optional.
  4. Choose Personal for private life or Work for private professional work. Neither is automatically shared with teammates.
  5. Open Quick capture and type one thing on your mind. Save it, then check Review Inbox for suggested actions.
  6. Open Today to choose a focus. The companion’s suggestions are proposals; you remain in control.

2. Personal, Work and Team spaces

Make the sharing boundary visible before you create or move anything.

  1. Use the workspace selector to choose Personal, Work or a Team. Personal and Work belong only to their owner.
  2. Open Manage workspaces to create a named Team. You may create multiple Teams within service limits.
  3. As an owner or administrator, invite a person by email and choose the appropriate role. The recipient accepts while signed into the matching account.
  4. Use member for people who edit projects and tasks, and viewer for people who should only read. Review membership before adding confidential material.
  5. Create or share the project into the intended Team. Assign tasks to active members of that Team.
  6. Remove a member when access is no longer needed. Keep private content in Personal or Work rather than assuming a Team project has a separate privacy boundary.

3. Quick notes, photos and voice

Capture first, organize when you have space to think.

  1. Select Quick capture and choose text, photo or voice. Add a useful sentence when possible.
  2. For a photo, choose the image and save. For voice, permit the microphone, record, stop and use Listen before saving.
  3. If you are interrupted, choose Keep draft where available. Cancel closes the capture flow; check the draft prompt before discarding.
  4. Open Captures to find quick notes, grouped by date, and project-linked sources. Open a capture to inspect its original photo, audio or recognized text.
  5. Use Select & organize for several captures. Review the selected count before archive, trash or workspace transfer.
  6. If an upload is pending, keep the app’s local data and reconnect. Do not reinstall or clear browser storage to fix a sync problem.

4. Review Inbox and source evidence

Check what the assistant understood before accepting important changes.

  1. Open Review Inbox and inspect the suggested action, source and relevant excerpt.
  2. Open the linked original to compare a suggestion with the note, photo, voice transcript or handwriting.
  3. Edit the title, dates, project and other supported fields when the suggestion needs correction.
  4. Approve to create the action, or reject an irrelevant suggestion. Use grouped review to work through related suggestions together.
  5. Find approved actions in Tasks or Calendar. Reopening a source should show where the suggestion came from.
  6. Teach recurring preferences through Settings or the companion’s editable context rather than repeatedly accepting a wrong assumption.

5. Tasks, boards and dependencies

See the same work as a list, board, calendar or timeline.

  1. Open Tasks and add a task, or open one created from a reviewed capture.
  2. Set its project, status, priority, start and due dates. Assign it to a teammate only inside the appropriate Team.
  3. Use the project, status, priority and date filters. Group by project when you need to see one outcome at a time.
  4. Switch to Board to work with buckets. Choose status or priority grouping and use the labels as well as the colors.
  5. Switch to Calendar for dates or Gantt for timing and dependencies. Start dates determine task order; undated tasks remain visible in the appropriate list.
  6. Open a task to add a comment with a decision, blocker or progress update. Status changes and comments can inform private-space companion context.

6. Projects and their notebooks

Give an outcome a home for its plan, notes and decisions.

  1. Open Projects and create a project with a clear outcome, or describe it to the companion.
  2. Click a project to open its dashboard: progress, milestones, tasks, linked notebooks and relevant insights.
  3. Use the project’s automatically linked notebook for meetings, decisions, references and working notes.
  4. Link an existing note or page to a project or task when it belongs in the same context.
  5. Ask the companion to summarize a linked note into a task comment or propose next tasks. Inspect the proposed changes before applying them.
  6. Use the daily and weekly overview to choose what to do next, and refresh a project brief after meaningful changes. Collapse roadmaps when you want a quieter overview.

7. Typed notes, links and reusable views

Keep flexible notes without losing their relationship to work.

  1. Open Notebooks and create a notebook or choose a template. Select a page to edit.
  2. Type into headings, text and checklist blocks. Use available block controls or the slash menu to add structure.
  3. Use the link picker or [[ where supported to link another note. Follow backlinks to see notes that refer to this one.
  4. Add supported custom properties for the information you regularly track. Keep the property names simple and consistent.
  5. Create a reusable view with filters and grouping for frequently visited tasks or notes. A saved view shows the underlying records rather than a separate copy.
  6. Use Import Markdown to bring text into a notebook. Review imported formatting and links, then save. Use page history to compare prior saved versions before restoring.

8. Write with Apple Pencil

Use the native iPad page when handwriting is the best way to think.

  1. Open a notebook page and choose Write on this page. The writing surface can use the full screen.
  2. Select a pen, color and stroke width with the tool icons. Use eraser or lasso to work with existing ink.
  3. Write naturally. Supported Pencil gestures depend on your Pencil and iPad model; use the visible tool controls when a gesture is unavailable.
  4. Use page thumbnails to navigate and reorder pages with the available page controls. Rotate the device to use the layout that suits your writing.
  5. Use recognition to turn supported handwriting into searchable text. Review the recognized first sentence and proposed page title.
  6. Ask about a selection or extract actions when the relevant control is available. Keep the original ink as evidence, then Save ink. Back out with Keep draft when you are not ready to save.

9. Import and annotate a PDF

Keep the original document and your notes together.

  1. Open the target notebook and choose Import PDF. Select a document you are authorized to store.
  2. Open the imported page and choose Open PDF & annotate. Navigate to the page you need.
  3. Draw a small mark first to check alignment, then annotate with your Pencil or the supported web tools.
  4. Choose Save PDF before leaving the annotation session. If interrupted, keep the draft rather than discarding it.
  5. Reopen the PDF to verify your mark remains on the correct page.
  6. Use source links from notes or actions to return to the annotated document. For a problem, report the device, page number and steps without attaching confidential content.

10. Talk with your companion

Use conversation to clarify, plan and review your work.

  1. Open Assistant for a full conversation, or open the companion sidebar from the current page.
  2. Describe the outcome you want and what makes it difficult. Include constraints such as deadline, available time and workdays.
  3. Answer follow-up questions. For a large project, watch the visible generation stages while it works through smaller planning steps.
  4. Review proposed projects, milestones and tasks. If the response needs a correction, state it explicitly before applying the plan.
  5. Open Context to inspect editable memory. Correct or remove information that no longer represents you.
  6. Ask for a table or chart when it helps, then save the artifact into the appropriate notebook. A saved snapshot remains a snapshot unless you explicitly use a supported live view.

11. Today and weekly reconciliation

Let context support your judgment without turning the day into a score.

  1. Open Today and review the three contextual suggestions. Choose what is useful; dismiss what is not.
  2. Tell the companion what happened, what is complete and what changed. Include blockers and energy or time constraints if you want them considered.
  3. Check proposed task updates against actual work before applying them.
  4. At the end of the week, open the weekly review and reconcile completed, delayed and still-relevant commitments.
  5. Reschedule or release work that no longer matters. Correct the companion when it misreads your intention.
  6. Review Work and Personal separately to notice imbalance and leave room for rest. Adjust planning and workday preferences in Settings.

12. Calendar, location and notifications

Connect only the services you want to use.

  1. Open Settings and review available connections. Google and Outlook calendars require the platform’s OAuth configuration before they can be connected.
  2. Choose the provider, sign in on its official page and read the requested access. You can skip this during onboarding.
  3. Choose the supported calendar and review the latest sync status. Confirm that imported events appear in Calendar.
  4. Set your timezone and workdays before asking for a schedule. Work planning should respect those preferences and occupied time where available.
  5. Enable location features only if useful to you. Review weather or location tips as context, not a guarantee about conditions.
  6. Verify your email and enable the daily digest in Settings. Choose the delivery hour in your timezone; service receipts and support updates are sent when those events occur.

13. Capture from another iPad app

Send information into the notebook where it belongs.

  1. In Safari, Photos or Files, open the share sheet for a webpage, photo or supported document.
  2. Choose Manicule if the installed build includes its share extension. Use More to find available share actions.
  3. Choose the destination workspace and project notebook carefully. Shared Teams have a different audience from Personal and Work.
  4. Add a short description so the capture has useful context, then save to the share queue.
  5. Open Manicule to finish importing and syncing the queued item. Confirm it appears in the intended notebook.
  6. Where installed, use the Manicule widget or Shortcuts action to begin a quick capture. Configure its destination before relying on it for routine work.

14. Plans, credits, receipts and spending

Know what you are approving before money or credits are used.

  1. Open Settings → Plan & usage, or visit /billing after signing in. Check available credits, reservations and recent usage.
  2. Plus is $24/month with 500 monthly credits; Pro is $49/month with 1,500. Top-ups are manual: 500 for $15, 1,500 for $39 or 5,000 for $119.
  3. Set a daily credit limit, a threshold for confirming larger AI actions, and a monthly purchase limit. A purchase limit of zero prevents checkout.
  4. When live checkout is enabled, choose a plan or pack and approve on PayPal. Return to Manicule and allow server confirmation; a return link alone never grants credits.
  5. Open Payments & receipts to view the paid receipt, or print it to PDF. A receipt email is queued for the verified payment. If a payment is under review, contact billing support for its current status.
  6. To stop renewal, use the cancellation control for the active subscription. Purchased credits do not expire; monthly allowances and trial credits have their displayed expiry.

15. Invite a friend

Share Manicule with a real person who would find it useful.

  1. Verify your own email in Settings.
  2. Open Plan & usage → Invite a friend and copy your personal invitation link.
  3. Send it to a friend who does not already have a Manicule account. The friend opens the link and creates an account.
  4. The new account receives its own 500 welcome credits for the 14-day trial.
  5. When the friend verifies their email, your account receives one additional 500-credit reward. Referral credits do not expire.
  6. If attribution was missed during Google sign-in or on another device, the friend can enter your code in Plan & usage within 24 hours of creating their account.

16. Drafts, offline work and recovery

Keep your originals safe while a connection comes and goes.

  1. Save or keep a draft before switching away from an active pen, PDF or recording session.
  2. When offline, continue with the supported local capture and editing tools. Server AI, support submission and payments require a connection.
  3. Reconnect and leave the app open while pending uploads and changes synchronize.
  4. If a conflict appears, compare versions before choosing which content to keep. Preserve a copy when uncertain.
  5. Use Trash to restore recoverable deleted content. Use export in Settings for a copy of your spaces and supported originals.
  6. Before updating or reinstalling, confirm drafts have been kept and synchronized. Do not clear browser data or uninstall the iPad app as an initial troubleshooting step.

17. Get help and follow a case

Keep the problem, replies and resolution in a single private conversation.

  1. Open Support from Settings or /support and sign in. Select New case.
  2. Choose a category and write a short subject. Describe the expected result, what happened, your device and the steps that reproduce the issue.
  3. Do not include passwords, provider keys or payment-card details. Support cannot see your private notebooks unless you deliberately share their content in a message.
  4. Send the case. Its case number and status appear in your list, and email notifications link back to it. Unsent case text remains saved on this device.
  5. Open a case to read replies and add information. Refresh to see the latest updates. Reply inside the case; automated notification emails are not an email-to-ticket inbox.
  6. Close the case when resolved. Reopen it if the problem returns. If you cannot sign in, contact hello@manicule.me and include your case number if available.

18. Admin support operations

Case management is separate from access to customer workspaces.

  1. Open /admin and unlock administration with your authorized account and authenticator.
  2. Choose Support cases and filter by open, in progress, waiting for user, resolved or closed.
  3. Open a case, choose a responsible active support administrator and set a realistic priority.
  4. Reply with the next useful step. Replies are visible to the customer; there are no private internal notes in this first support release.
  5. Update the status as work progresses. Case creation, replies and status changes queue email notifications for the customer and responsible staff.
  6. Review delivery queues when notifications fail, and the audit trail for staff changes. Keep provider secrets in Keys & connections; never request them in a support case.
